Ruth Arleen Howell Barclay, 84


 Ruth Arleen Howell Barclay, 84, of Blackfoot, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 20,
2012 at Bingham Skilled Nursing and Rehab Center.
Ruth was born July 31, 1928 in West Yellowstone, Mont., to James Verl Howell and Vida Laveena Ward.   She spent her youth in Pocatello, attending Washington Elementary School and graduating from Pocatello High School.
She met her husband at a dance at the Deleta Skating Rink in Pocatello and married Michael Barclay on Jan. 17, 1952 in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple.
She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints where she enjoyed working in the Primary, Cub Scouts, genealogy and helped extensively extracting names for temple work.  She also enjoyed being in the choir and serving as a visiting teacher in the Relief Society.
Ruth was a telephone operator for a time, just out of school.  She was active with her husband on the farm and sheep ranching operation.  She was the camp cook many times.  In her free time she enjoyed dancing, singing, music, genealogy, reading, embroidery, sewing, family reunions, was an avid gardener, crossword and word search puzzles, collecting recipes and cooking.  She cherished her walks with her children and grandchildren on the farm and Sunday afternoon drives. Her family brought her the greatest joy.
Ruth is survived by her children, Robert David Barclay, Sr of Pocatello; Mary Ann (Bill) Thompson of Wapello; Thomas (Christy) Barclay of Indianapolis, Ind.; Betty (James) Barrow of Blackfoot; Bonnie (Douglas) Scholes of Rigby and Michael Barclay of Spanish Fork, Utah; brothers, Ray (Bev) Howell of Pocatello and Jim (Kaye) Howell of Draper, Utah; sisters-in-law, Margie Nutt of West Valley City, Utah, Ivy Howell of Salt Lake City, Utah and Olive Barclay of Blackfoot; 35 grandchildren and spouses; and 17.5 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Michael; parents; brother, George Howell; and sister, Betty Taggart.
The family would like to express heartfelt thanks to all those who so lovingly cared for her and treated her with such compassion and dignity.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct.26, 2012, at the Riverside LDS Church, 5 North 700 West, Blackfoot.
The family will meet with friends on Thursday from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. in Blackfoot at the Hawker Funeral Home, 132 S. Shilling Ave., and again on Friday at the church for an hour prior to services.
The family suggest that memorials be made to the LDS Missionary Fund or your favorite charity.
