Planning & Zoning to mull CUPs and other topics

The Blackfoot Planning & Zoning Commission will meet on Tuesday, Sept. 26 to discuss several items, including testimony to allow that body to determine whether to approve or deny a request for a conditional use permit (CUP) for a childcare facility at 91 N. Broadway, owned by Lisa Davies.
"I am a small daycare owner," said Davies, owner of Downtown Daycare. "So, I want to watch over a few kids. It would be more of a home daycare.
“It has been open for two years. I want the conditional use permit so I can stay open. It's not as big as other daycare facilities."
She added that her facility currently has nine children enrolled but can hold up to 28.
Kurt Hibbert, P&Z Administrator, said, "The purpose of this meeting is to determine whether a conditional use permit for a childcare facility should or should not be granted.
“There are three processes used to determine whether the permit should be granted: a land-use review, a building code review (which includes the entrances and exits), as well as health, safety and a fire code review.
"Also, we want to make sure that childcare facilities are allowed and copacetic. There are a whole series of standards that the city and the state have to meet to grant this request."
All persons interested are invited to attend the hearing to show cause as to why said recommendation should or should not be granted.
