Two Blackfoot High School athletes taking part in the 40th annual Simplot Games earned trips to the finals on Saturday at Holt Arena on the campus of Idaho State University. Cade Ricks set a personal best with a pole vault of 13' 3", qualifying for the finals on his first jump of the event on Friday.
"He's never jumped that high and he does it on his first try,"said BHS track and field coach Jason Lish. So he was able to just watch the others knowing he was going to be jumping again on Saturday (beginning at 1 p.m.).
Meanwhile, senior Derek Thomas qualified in the 800, which will take place at 8:40 a.m. "Derek is such a great kid," Lish said. "He was very good and I expect good things from him tomorrow."
