Lady Broncos sweep Lady Spartans 12-1, 11-0

BLACKFOOT — The Blackfoot Lady Bronco softball squad continued their unblemished season as they returned to the home diamond with a dominating 12-1, 11-0 sweep of the visiting Lady Spartans of Minico on Tuesday.
"I am just so happy with the way that these girls played," Blackfoot head coach Matt Chavez said. "My little freshmen got a couple of crushes. Cassandra [Clarke] almost took one out in the first game. I mean, they did a fantastic job because it is really tough for a good hitting team to face slower pitching and these girls didn't struggle at all today."

Showing little if any rust following the recently completed Spring break, the Lady Broncos came out swinging against the Lady Spartans as they pushed four runs across the plate in the bottom of the first inning to take a lead that was never threatened.
Sammi MacFee led off the inning by reaching on a fielding error by the Minico left fielder. Jessica Capson was plunked on the next pitch and Mattison Chavez cashed in on one of those runners with an RBI double for the games first score. Madison Leslie scored two more runs for the Lady Broncos with a 2RBI triple.
After Capson struck out the side in the top of the second inning Blackfoot put the game away with a 6 run home half of the frame as 12 hitters strode to the plate. Leslie collected her second hit in as many innings in the uprising while Gentry Carter added a base knock to lead off the frame. Blackfoot showed great patience at the plate in the inning as they collected 6 base on balls.
Any thoughts of a let down in game two was quickly dispelled as the Lady Broncos pushed a trio of runs across in the first inning for a quick 3-0 lead and with a near flawless defensive day the Lady Broncos were in business.
"Morningrose [Tobey] was sick today so Sammi [MacFee] had to move positions today and she looked fantastic out there today," coach Chavez said. "I told these girls to be proud of themselves because last year when there was a fly ball I would get a little bit nervous but this year, I've never been more relaxed in the dugout in my entire life, because I have the confidence that each and everyone of them can get the job done."
In addition to her glove, MacFee was again a major cog in the Blackfoot offensive machine as she swatted double, scored three times and drove in four runs in game two. Madison Leslie continued her strong offensive day with a 2 for 2 performance which included a pair of RBI.
All of this was in support of Jessica Capson who after throwing a 2 hitter in game one, followed that up with a no hitter in game two as she faced just one hitter more than the minimum in the five inning shutout.
"Jessica is just a fantastic kid," coach Chavez said. "I saw one of her quotes about winners train and losers complain and you know, she's true to that. She works her but off to be as good as she is and her attitude is incredible. She knows that she is going to do something special in every ball game."
Blackfoot (7-0) will look to keep the momentum rolling when they travel to Pocatello on Friday for a key conference double header with the Lady Indians. First pitch for game one will be at 4 p.m.
