Broncos win shootout 57-36

BLACKFOOT — Kyler Haddon rushed four 104 yards and four touchdowns and James Korth added 106 receiving yards while scoring three touchdowns as the defending 4A state champion Blackfoot Broncos extended their winning streak to 18 games with a 57-36 win over Hillcrest on Thursday evening.
"The offense was outstanding tonight," Blackfoot head coach Stan Buck said. "Alonzo threw the ball well. We ran the ball well and our offensive line protected well we just didn't anticipate a shootout like we got tonight."

Indeed for most of the evening it was defense optional as both offensive units did pretty much whatever they wanted, when they wanted to do it, as the two teams traded the lead on six straight offensive possessions in the first half.
Blackfoot had the last tally in the wild half when Alonzo Ramos did his best impression of former Minnesota Vikings star Fran Tarkington, rolling right and then scrambling back to his left before launching a deep ball into the corner of the end zone and into the hands of a diving James Korth for an 18 yard score with no time left on the clock. After the Gabby Botello extra point the Broncos led 21-17.
"Defensively we would get to third down and fourth down and then we would have a break down in communication but you have to hand it to Hillcrest, they came out and made plays tonight," Coach Buck said. "We didn't execute like we would have liked to have executed but we had some kids step up and make plays when we needed them to."
Out of the break Blackfoot turned to their vaunted running game and the big boys in the trenches answered the call as they pounded Hillcrest on the ground for four rushing touchdowns and 125 second half rushing yards. Haddon was the biggest beneficiary of the ground and pound with a pair of scores while compiling 85 of his 104 yards during second half action.
When the Broncos did pass in the second half, they were perfect on the stat sheet as Ramos was 5 for 5 in the half including a 35 yard strike to Korth early in the fourth quarter. Ramos finished the evening an efficient 13 of 19 for 213 yards and a pair of touchdown tosses.
Blackfoot (6-0, 3-0) will travel to Madison next Friday for a non-conference showdown with the undefeated Madison Bobcats. Kick off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
