Broncos back on track with 34-13 win over Indians

BLACKFOOT — The Blackfoot Broncos got back in the saddle on Friday night as they shook off their first loss of the season by dominating conference rival Pocatello 34-13.
"I'm pretty happy with the way we played," Blackfoot head coach Stan Buck said. "The defense played well and really got us going in the game. They made lots of stops which then got our offense going."

The Blackfoot defense was certainly rock solid, especially through the first three quarters of play as they held Pocatello to just 128 total yards, forced three turnovers and a big goose egg on the scoreboard.
"Defense," Blackfoot senior Colby Pearson said. "We came out and executed our defensive game play and didn't let Pocatello execute their game plan. It was a little scary coming off of last weeks loss. I was wondering how we would respond but I'm just proud of the way that our guys responded."
With the game well in control on the defensive side of the ball the only question was if Blackfoot's offense could rise to the occasion as well. That question was answered early and often by the dynamic duo of Alonzo Ramos and Colby Pearson as the seniors connected on four touchdown passes, the most spectacular of which was the 26 yard one handed catch by Pearson over the Pocatello defender late in the third quarter.
"That one felt good," Pearson said. "I had told Zo to get the ball up a little higher and he put it right there. It was easily a top three catch for me and to come out and do it on senior night was even better."
Pearson ended up with 126 yards on 8 catches while Ramos finished the evening with 248 yards passing on a 14 of 26 passing night.
"We threw the ball well tonight and eventually our ground game started coming together," Coach Buck said. "Our offensive line did a good job and we picked up a lot of crucial third and fourth down conversions."
In addition to the nice passing night, Blackfoot also showcased a solid ground attack with 169 yards rushing led by Ramos and his 79 yards. Dallas Thompson added 44 yards on 10 carries while Kyler Haddon added 45 yards which also included a 12 yard touchdown plunge midway through the fourth quarter of play.
"Our offensive line were getting it done tonight," Pearson said.
With the win Blackfoot (7-1) secures the top seed out of the 5-6 High Country Conference and will host a first round playoff game in two weeks but first, the Broncos will need to close out their regular season when they travel to Rigby next Friday.
"We've put ourselves in a good position," Coach Buck said. "With the number one seed we get to stay at home. We will be facing a pretty good team so we just need to get ready and get prepared."
