Blackfoot softball sweeps Pocatello

Blackfoot's Morningrose Toby and Pocatello's Alice Kordopatis engaged in a good old-fashioned pitching duel on Friday. Both struck out 13 batters but Toby came away with a 4-2 victory in the first game of a conference softball doubleheader. The Broncos won the nightcap 9-1.
Maddie Chavez opened the first game with a triple and Toby followed with a walk. Madison Leslie drove both home with a double. Blackfoot scored two more in the fourth when Ashlyn Beers singled, stole second and third and came home on Cassandra Clarek's single. Clarke stole two bases and scored when Chavez was safe on a passed ball after striking out.
In the second game Jessica Capson stopped the Indians cold while her teammates peppered Kordopatis with hits. Capson had two hits, including a double, in her owncause. Beers also had two hits while Toby had three.
"In the first game our younger players struggled," said Blackfoot coach Matt Chavez. "But in the second game they settled down and started hitting.
"Capson pitched one hell of a second game," Chavez continued. "She had four strikeouts and they didn't hit her hard at all."
The Broncos will entertain Idaho Falls at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
