Elynn Matthews Kirkham, 88, of Blackfoot passed away on Jan. 2, 2014 at Portneuf Medical Center in Pocatello.
Elynn was born March 23, 1925, in Green Timber, Idaho, the daughter of Hazel and Byron Matthews.
Elynn grew up in Ashton and graduated from Ashton High School in 1943. She moved to Utah where she worked and attended Brigham Young University.
On May 15, 1948 she married the love of her life – the late Clifford William (Bill) Kirkham. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. They lived in Ashton for several years before moving to Blackfoot where they resided for the past 50 years.
Elynn was an accomplished seamstress, had a great love for music, enjoyed singing, painting and spending time with her family.
Elynn was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and enjoyed the many different positions she held throughout her lifetime.
One of Elynn’s greatest joys was spending time with her children and grandchildren. Elynn made every occasion special – from elaborate birthday cakes, magnificent Easter Egg Hunts to beautiful handmade clothes. She was passionate about life and enriched everyone’s life she touched.
Elynn is survived by three children; Adelynn (Dennis P.) Smith of Idaho Falls, Billy Kirkham of Blackfoot and Shannon (Carl M.) Jones of Pocatello; sister, Fay Harrigfeld of Ashton; seven grandchildren; Melinda (Stacey) Murdock, Jacob (Amanda) Smith, Erica (Jeremy) Mauro, Andrew (Amy) Smith, Whitney (Jay) Hix, Jessica (John) Jones-McCann, and Lauren Jones; 10 great-grandchildren; Rebecca, Jackson and Corinna Murdock, Dyllan, Tommy and Dean Smith, Isabella and Hazel Mauro, Joshua Smith and Lucy Hix.
She was preceded in death by her husband Bill Kirkham; brothers, Jim, Jack and Jeff Matthews; sisters, Inez Karren and Adelaide Mortenson and grandson, Joshua D. Smith.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014 at the Thomas LDS Chapel. The family will meet with friends from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 10 at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 S. Shilling Ave. in Blackfoot and from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 11 at the Pine View Cemetery in Ashton.
