Evelyn “Aunt Evie” Whitaker, 89, of Blackfoot passed away Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2013, at Bingham Memorial Hospital from a brief illness.
She was born Feb. 7, 1924, in Jamestown, Idaho, the daughter of Terrance C. Anderson and Cora Harker Anderson.
She graduated from Blackfoot High School in 1942 and has lived in the Blackfoot area for most of her life.
She was married and widowed by five husbands, 1) Albert Curley Stewart married in 1940, widowed in 1955, 2) James Eddy Sherman married in 1959 in Elko, Nev., widowed in 1973, 3) James Crow married in 1973 in Elko, Nev., widowed in 1974, 4) Milton Ashton married in 1976 in Reno, Nev., widowed in 1986, 5) Delbert Whitaker, married April 14, 2000, in Blackfoot. He preceded her in death on Nov. 20, 2003.
She owned and operated Minnie’s Café with her husband, Eddy, and also worked for AEC (INL) and American Potato.
Evelyn was a member and past matron of Order of the Eastern Star.
She enjoyed fishing, knitting and crocheting.
She is survived by her sister, Dora Barnes of Blackfoot; nieces, Jane Mickelsen, Nancy Beamis, Norma Snyder, Diana Loman, Rohailia Broncho; nephews, Dan Hill, Shane Pratt, Chris Anderson and Terry Anderson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Monte and infant brother, Sherman; sisters, Erma Clarke and infant sister, Ruth; and nephew, Wyatt Anderson.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013, at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 S. Shilling Ave., Blackfoot.
The family will meet with friends on Friday from 6-8 p.m. and for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Interment will be in the Grove City Cemetery.
