BLACKFOOT — Affordable Family Dentistry is just that—affordable. Children through adults are welcome at the practice.
“We keep prices lower so people can afford to come in,” said Dr. Tracy Jenkins, D.D.S. “We fill a little bit of a niche there.”
“Did you know more deaths are caused from oral cancer than from cervical cancer?” the doctor asked. “I do an oral cancer screening every time a patient comes in. I feel for tumors in the head and neck.
A dentist’s goal is total heath, Jenkins said.
“Since we [dentists] see people twice each year, we are able to catch decay early as well as diseases, like gum disease, dementia, heart trouble and diabetes.
For people who use tobacco, Jenkins said, “I don’t judge people; I just want to help out.
“Catching things early can save a life and change a life,” he said.
“Preventative care is cheaper,” Jenkins said. “It saves you money to come in regularly.”
Other services Jenkins provides include appliances a patient can wear in his/her mouth to help with sleep apnea and snoring. He can also replace missing teeth with dental implants.
Jenkins also does cosmetic dentistry. That includes veneers, crowns, bridges, extractions and root canals.
“I do everything but braces,” he said.
He also does references for wisdom teeth.
So why did you choose dentistry?
“I like working with people and I’m talented with my hands,” Jenkins said. “I grew up around construction, working with tools and carpentry.
“I like getting people out of pain and let them feel better about their smile,” he said. “It’s nice to make a difference.”
Jenkins graduated from Indiana University School of Dentistry. He received his B.S. degree in biology from ISU, after starting college at BYU-Idaho.
Jenkins has worked in dentistry since January 2009.
Jenkins and his wife, Ellen, have two boys, 5-year-old Ben and 2 ½-year-old Isaac.
Affordable Family Dentistry is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. It is at 1120 Parkway St. in Blackfoot. Appointments can be made by calling (208) 785-0878.
