Last November, 99 individuals pulled on their gloves, hats, and other thermal wear and struck out into the cold, wind, and sleet at the inaugural Blackfoot Tater Trot Run and Walk. Covering distances of 5 or 10 kilometers, they traversed a portion of the Greenbelt from Veterans' Park, to Jensen Grove, and north to Rose Road. On their return, they were greeted by the smiling faces of volunteers from Community Dinner Table who served up hot, steaming baked potatoes and warm drinks.
On Saturday, Nov. 10, everyone is invited to join returning runners and walkers for the second edition of this event. This year, race organizers have ordered up sunshine and blue skies for the morning and have their fingers crossed that the weather store will deliver on time. Potandon Produce and Liberty Gold Potato have again provided generous sponsorships and several local businesses are contributing prizes for the post-race random drawing.
Tater Trot participants registering by Nov. 3 will receive a snazzy long sleeve tee shirt with the event logo. Everyone will enjoy a repeat of the baked potato feed. Proceeds from the run will again be directed to the Christmas Box program of Community Dinner Table. This program puts food on the table for the holiday season for many local families and individuals.
Registration is available locally at the Downtown Bread Company. Those wishing to register online may go to www.active.com/running/blackfoot-id/tater-trot-2012. The entry fee is $25 for all 5K and 10 K categories, and $10 for the 12-and-under one mile run. Call (208) 785-8915 for more information.
