BLACKFOOT—Morning News publisher, Leonard Martin, is one of four Bingham County business people to be nominated for an Idaho State Journal (ISJ) Business Achievement Award. Martin, who has been publisher of the Morning News for the past seven years, worked as the advertising director of the Idaho State Journal in Pocatello for fourteen years prior to becoming the publisher of Blackfoot's newspaper.
Martin, who was nominated by a Morning News employee, said he was tipped off about the award when his friend and former co-worker, Doug Lindley from the ISJ, called and requested a picture of him. "I said said, 'hmmmm...what do you need a picture of me for? ' " Martin joked. "I don't know what they said about me."
Also nominated was Susan Mann, program director for the Blackfoot Performing Arts Center. "I'm thrilled and I feel honored," Mann said about her nomination. "This is a huge honor to represent the city of Blackfoot and the Blackfoot Performing Arts Center." Business women, Kathy Tauscher of Kathy & Company and Tamara Trahant-Dance of Dance Designs Inc., were also nominated.
"I really can't believe I was one of the people nominated," Tauscher commented. "I'm one that usually stays behind the scenes. It will be fun to find out who wins."
The ISJ business awards are to recognize the outstanding business and community efforts of southeast Idahoans as business people, volunteers and educators. The categories include retail, professional, non-profit/public service, volunteer-of-the-year, industry/technology, education and 'Overachievers under 40.' Two awards will be given out in an education category, one each for the K-12 level and university level.
There will also be a "Hall of Fame" award given out for the winner's lifetime achievement.
The awards are sponsored by the Idaho State Journal, Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance, the Greater Pocatello Chamber of Commerce and the Blackfoot Chamber of Commerce. A selection committee made up of members of each sponsoring group selects the winners.
The award ceremony will be held at the Clarion Inn in Pocatello, Wednesday, from 6-9:30 p.m. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at the Idaho State Journal or Blackfoot Chamber of Commerce.
Bingham County residents are encouraged to attend and support their fellow business friends and colleagues at what is described as a "gala event."
