Snake River students compete in shoe design contest

April 29, 2011

Vote for these shoe designs from Snake River High School at the Vans Shoe website. Regional winners travel to New York in June.

THOMAS — Your vote is needed.
Snake River High School students need your vote to continue in the Vans Shoes sneaker customization contest.
Art students in Jason Coles' advanced placement class designed four pairs of shoes using four different themes—art, music, street fashion and active sports.
The Snake River entry is a finalist in the Northwest Region, having been named one of the top 10 entries in this region.
The nation is divided into five regions. The top vote-getter in each region will travel to New York City.
"If we win the regional contest, there is the potential that all of us will travel to New York," said Snake River art student Katie Mathis. She is a senior. "If we win in New York, there is the possibility the shoes will be made and sold for a short time."
If the Snake River designs are number one in the nation, the art department at the high school would also win $40,000.
In the Northwest region, entries come from Oregon, South Dakota, Montana, Washington and Idaho.
"We heard about this art contest from my friend, Bobby Finnicle," Mathis said.
Snake River entered the contest in March. Vans Shoes sent the school four pairs of shoes to decorate.
The shoe designs were submitted to the company on April 15.
To vote online, go to www.vans.com/customculture.com. Under the Northwest Region, vote for Snake River High School, Blackfoot, Idaho.
Voting ends at midnight on Monday.
