THOMAS — Snake River coach Jeff Dalley didn't know what to make of the Panthers' 70-7 beat-down of American Falls in South East Idaho Conference football action on Friday.
"I never would have expected it," Dalley said. "I really thought it would be a slugfest."
Wyatt Wray was 7-for-8 for 142 yards and five touchdowns to lead the Panthers (5-3, 2-1 SEIC). Seven different men caught his passes. They included Smith for 20 yards and a touchdown; Bret Parkinson for 50 yards and a touchdown; Chad VanOrden for 5 yards and a score; Dawson Bingham for 1. yards and a score; and Tyler Porter for 28 yards and a touchdown.
Emmett Smith rushed for 114 yards and a touchdown to pace a ground attack which finished with 370 yards. Nate Martin had three runs for 92 yards and a score.
"I can't say enough about our offensive line," Dalley said. "It was good to watch the way they handled themselves tonight."
And, Dalley noted, the defense played well, too.
"Our defensive backs played well and our defensive line did a good job of getting pressure," he said. "it was just a great team effort."
Snake River led 43-0 at halftime and Dalley did what he could to avoid being accused of running up the score. Linemen Marcus Yazzie and Hayden Lee had short touchdown runs.
In addition Andres Garza had an 85-yard kickoff return and Martin had a 72-yard dash for a score.
Snake River will advance to the Class 3A playoffs next Thursday. The Panthers will play South Fremont at 5:30 p.m. in Idaho State's Holt Arena in Pocatello.
American Falls (6-2, 1-2 SEIC) will play Salmon.
