Before Friday Wyatt Volger hadn't played much varsity football for Snake River.
Vogler almost certainly earned more playing time after rushing for 170 yards and 3 touchdowns to help the Panthers (3-3, 1-0 District Five) defeated American Falls 42-0.
"My teammates told me to treat it like a JV game," Vogler said. "Just go out and do your job.
Volger's first touchdown was an 83-yard run in which he started in the middle, broke free and sprinted down the right sideline. He added scoring runs of 28 and 14 yards as he carried the ball 7 times.
"Our front line was giving a good push," Vogler said of his successful night.
Brad Coombs also carried the ball 7 times. He had an 11-yard touchdown run among his 81 rushing yards and added a 10-yard TD reception of a Kade Keller pass. Collin Bingham had an 11-yard touchdown run and Oliver Rasmussen kicked all 6 extra points to complete the scoring.
Brody Young set up one of the Panthers' touchdowns when he recovered an American Falls fumble near the Beavers' 15-yard line.
The Panthers capitalized on another miscue by American Falls (1-5, 0-1) as well.
"I was pretty nervous all the way up to the game," Vogler said of first substantial varsity action.
"Wyatt got his shot and made the most of it," said Snake River coach Jeff Dalley.
"The biggest thing our defense did tonight was they read their keys," Dalley said of the shutout.
The Panthers finished with a 5-for-10 ledger through the air as Keller completed 1-of-4 passes and Sean Miller completed 4-of-6 for 59 yards.
"I like what they bring to us," Dalley said of the Panthers' two-quarterback system. "We get different strengths from each of them."
Snake River will be at Marsh Valley next Friday.
"Marsh Valley is dangerous," Dalley said. "I don't know that I've won many times down there."
