IDAHO FALLS — With a seven point lead and a little more than two minutes remaining in the game the Blackfoot defense had Skyline in a fourth and nine situation at the Broncos 39 yard line.
But as turned out to be the story in the game Skyline quarterback Zak Bennett escaped the Broncos rush and found an Tristen Olson for the touchdown. A PAT later and the game was tied.
Bennett carried his team in the overtimes as Skyline held on for a 47-41 double overtime victory at Ravsten Stadium in Idaho Falls.
The Broncos had a chance with 1:56 left in the game to get a drive going for the game-winning score, but the offense went three and out giving the Grizzlies the ball back.
Skyline rolled its way down to the Blackfoot 27 yard line and with eight seconds remaining Skyline kicker Korrey Dock's 45-yard field goal hit the right upright and was no good.
Skyline opened the first overtime with a touchdown as Bennett found Alex Peterson with a 10-yard touchdown pass.
But Dock's PAT attempt was wide right.
Blackfoot matched the Grizzlies touchdown on their first play when Taylor Pearson found James Korth with a 10-yard touchdown pass, setting up a game-winning PAT for Gabriel Botello.
Botello set himself and kicked the ball what looked like through the uprights and what the Blackfoot faithful thought was the win. The officials had another idea as they signaled the kick was no good.
Off to a second overtime with the Broncos getting the ball first.
On that second possession Pearson was rushed by a Grizzlies defender as he went to throw the ball, the pass fell into the hands of Skyline's Sean Storms for the interception.
Three plays later Benton Mitchell walked into the end zone for the game-winning touchdown.
The game was 14-7 Blackfoot at halftime, but the second half featured little defense on either side.
Bennett scored on the Grizzlies first possession of the half. After a Kylar Haddon fumble, the Grizzlies scored again this team on a 20-yard touchdown pass from Bennett to Layne Conner.
Haddon redeemed himself scoring on a 61-yard run to tie the game at 21-21.
Skyline scored again to head into the fourth quarter leading 28-21.
Haddon scored again to start the fourth, this time on a 28-yard fumble return.
After a Skyline fumble, Pearson found Korth with an 11-yard touchdown to give the Broncos a 35-28 lead.
Pearson finished the game 14-34 for 133 yards two touchdowns and two interceptions.
Haddon finished the day with 18 carries for 131 and two touchdowns.
Bennett finished the day 19-31 for 362 yards four touchdowns and an interception.
Blackfoot (0-2) is off next week and will host Century on Sept. 20.
