The Shelley Russets began District 6 3A tournament play on Monday night with a game against South Fremont. The game was projected as a blow out in favor of the Russets and after a bit of a slow beginning, that is just what the fans in attendance got. Despite a slow start, which saw the game 8-6 in favor of the Russets, the Shelley quintet would run off the next six points to take a 14-6 lead at the end of the first quarter.
That was just the beginning of the end for the Cougars, as the Russets turned up the tempo of their defense and ran to a 71-40 win to move into the second round and a match with regular season champion Sugar-Salem.
