SHELLEY — Assistant Librarian Henrietta Miller has made most of the 195 story kits available for loan at the North Bingham County District Library in Shelley.
The story kits feature a variety of themes. Some of these themes include holidays, transportation, trucks, cars, flight, animals, authors or destinations.
"One patron has borrowed every kit we have," Miller said.
Miller started building kits about 13 years ago, right after the library moved into its present location.
"The State Library Association wanted each library to make five kits that would be shared between libraries," Miller said. "We decided to make our own.
"I enjoy making them," Miller said.
Miller gets ideas from books, magazines and suggestions from patrons.
Each kit features books, games, a flannel board story, poems, finger plays, file folder games, arts and crafts and other activities.
Miller's latest kits explore Hawaii and a variety of authors. One kit features the works of Jim Aronsky, with games and other activities as add-ons.
The kits are also age-graded. There are kits for infants, toddlers, pre-school (ages 3, 4 and 5), elementary and juniors.
People can borrow the kits for two weeks. The Shelley Library is at 197 W. Locust St. in Shelley.
