Shelley knocks off Sugar-Salem for district title

Staff Writer

It has been said that until you knock the crown off the king, they are still the king. The Sugar-Salem Diggers have been wearing a pair of crowns as champion of District 6 and also the 3A state title holder after beating the Snake River Panthers in a thrilling championship game a year ago that ended up in overtime.
On Wednesday night, the Diggers lost one of those two crowns to the Shelley Russets, who out hustled and carved out a nifty 45-42 win over the Diggers to snare one of the two crowns they had been wearing for the better part of a year. Filer will get the next chance to take the other crown away from the Diggers on Saturday, when Sugar-Salem and Filer battle it out for the final spot in the state tournament which begins on Thursday, Mar. 1 in the Treasure Valley.
