Seth J. Taylor, 86, passed away Friday, Sept. 17, 2010, at home.
He was born on Sept. 24, 1923, to Alma and Afton Taylor in Preston. He moved to Jerome at the age of one year where he lived with his grandparents until completing high school. Following graduation, Seth worked at the Ram Lodge in Sun Valley. He returned to Pocatello where he met and married Jane Voth on New Years Eve, 1942. Seth Joined the Army in 1943 and was assigned to the 42nd Reconnaissance Squadron arriving ten days after D-Day. He served under General Patton and fought in five battle campaigns through Normandy, Northern France, and Ardennes Rhineland, Central Europe before receiving and honorable discharge in 1945.
Seth worked 25 years in the grocery business, primarily with Albertson's, before purchasing his own store in Aberdeen.
The following 25 years were spent selling insurance for Farm Bureau Insurance until his retirement to Emmett in 1989. During his 20 years in Emmett he enjoyed working at home creating a park-like yard and garden, traveling to visit family and friends, and enjoying local family. Seth also worked at Sander's Fruit Stand and later drove vehicles for Musick Auction. He finalized his working career as a bagger/greeter at Albertson's in Emmett.
His presence was very well known daily, for coffee at the Rumor Mill. He was active in the American Legion and the Presbyterian Church until his health began to fail. Seth is survived by his wife, Jane of 67 years; daughter and son-in-law Margaret Ann Zeal (Gerald) of Nampa, three grandchildren and four great grandchildren. His daughter, Mary Beth Kennedy preceded him in death.
Memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 22, at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery in Boise. Services are under the direction of Potter Funeral Chapel Emmett.
