Roger Patterson, 59, of Sugar Grove, Ill., passed away April 7, 2011 in Geneva, Ill. He was born Feb. 6, 1952, in Borger, Texas, to TJ and Virginia Patterson.
He was a member of the Sugar Grove United Methodist Church. He enjoyed playing in the hand bell choir; he was a member of their Evangilism and Membership committee; and was active on a church committee to start a community garden.
Roger retired from United Airlines and was currently working at Hesed House, a homeless shelter in Aurora, Ill.
Roger found his true calling working at the homeless shelter. He was admired by co-workers and guests. Each guest was greeted by Roger with a smiling face and an outstretched hand.
Roger loved snowmobiling in Yellowstone and camping in Stanley. While working for United Airlines, he traveled the world and enjoyed all of his adventures and meeting new people.
He is survived by his mother, Virginia Patterson; his sister, Barbara (Dennis) Norwood; his only niece Shannon (Kenneth) Jensen, and their two children TJ and Jordyn, all of Blackfoot.
He was preceded in death by his father, TJ Patterson.
We will celebrate Rogerâ€™s life at 11 a.m. Friday, April 15, 2011, at the Jason Lee Memorial United Methodist Church, Reverend Gay Jeffery officiating.
The family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m. at the church prior to services.
We will also celebrate Rogerâ€™s life at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 14, 2011, at the Sugar Grove United Methodist Church, Reverend Steve Goode officiating.
