Pride Days festivities set this Friday/Saturday

July 8, 2014

BLACKFOOT — The City of Blackfoot will roll out the red carpet for visitors and residents alike for "Blackfoot Pride Days" this Friday and Saturday at Jensen Grove.
The annual summertime event started back in the 1980's to celebrate the community of Blackfoot and all that it has to offer. Pride Days usually falls on the heels of the city's 4th of July celebrations with two packed days of festivities throughout the city. Most of the events are "free" or "low cost" with the majority of events taking place at Jensen Grove unless otherwise specified.
Locals enjoy Pride Days for its family friendly events and the opportunity to volunteer and make summertime memories. For some, its an opportunity to discover something new to "see or do" right in their own community.
New this year will be the "free stand" entertainment featuring seasoned entertainers on Saturday from 3-6 p.m. at the Jensen Grove Amphitheater.
"This is something that we've wanted to for a while," said organizer Tanna Beal. "There is so much talent in this community."
Also new this year, The Blackfoot Municipal Swimming Pool will be hosting a mini "Color Run" on Saturday. This event will take the place of the "dunking booth" that pool officials have sponsored in the past.
For more information on the Color Run and to pick up a "waiver form," contact pool manager Chantel Bame at 785-8625.
Free food can be had on Saturday at the free breakfast courtesy of Blackfoot Pipes and Drums 8 to 10 a.m. and the Pride Days potato feed sponsored by local potato companies from 11:30 a.m to 2 p.m.
Pride Days co-chair Mike Virtue said the perennial favorites that draw a lot of "out of town" folks to Blackfoot such as the free airplane rides, the snow machine races across Jensen Grove Lake, car and bike show, and the 'ping-pong' ball drop will all take place on Saturday.
"These events are always major draws," Virtue noted. "There are so many different things to do. We hope everyone will come and mingle, enjoy the food booths and vendors, and all that Blackfoot Pride Days has to offer.
