Pirates end Cougars season

November 17, 2013

Firth running back Connor Montgomery, #41, follows offensive lineman Kadon Miles, #51, downfield during their 2A state semifinal game against West Side Saturday in Holt Arena.

POCATELLO – Fourth and short, a situation every offensive player wants to succeed in.
Facing a fourth and three from the West Side 12 yard line, the Cougars needed to convert on a short yardage play to continue the drive and possibly clinch a berth in next week’s 2A state title game.
But Cougars senior running back Connor Montgomery’s 35th carry of the game came up one yard short and West Side took over on downs.
The failed conversion on fourth down was a consistent theme for the Cougars who failed to convert on five of their nine fourth down tries as missed opportunities and the legs of the Pirates Trevor Montes ended the Cougars season with a 24-18 overtime win in the 2A semifinals at Holt Arena Saturday.
