Panthers cruise to win on senior night

January 30, 2014

Snake River’s Makena Shelley goes up for a jumpshot while Bear Lake’s Breianna Grunig goes up to block the shot during the first half of their game at Snake River High School on Wednesday.

THOMAS — For Snake River's Makena Shelley, Brylie Bair and Scout Baldwin Wednesday night's home game against Bear Lake was the last time any of the three of them would play a game in the gym at Snake River High School.
The game also had implications on seeding for the 3A District 5 tournament.
I t did not take long for the Lady Panthers to establish their control of the game as Shelley nailed a three pointer to get the scoring started and the defense took care of the rest as the Panthers cruised to a 56-20 victory.

"Tonight we played great defense, but tonight we moved the ball real well," Snake River head coach Rich Dunn said. "we had people early on in the first quarter that could have taken a legitimate open three, but they pumped faked and made the extra pass to find the open player."
After Ivy Goff's open three the Panthers got aggressive driving to the basket as one three consecutive possessions the Panthers got fouled at sent to the free throw line.
"They just played with authority tonight," Dunn said. "With it being senior night and everything the girls obviously wanted to play well and the younger girls bought into sending the seniors out with the win."
The Panthers defense actually held Bear Lake scoreless in the first quarter and it wasn't until the 7:26 mark of the second quarter before the Bears finally got on the scoreboard.
Snake River led 37-8 at halftime.
Shelley got the second half off to a good start when she nailed an open three and for the next few minutes the three seniors got their final minutes on the floor at Snake River.
The fourth quarter was controlled by the youth movement for the Panthers as Alyssa Crumley, Sierra Mortenson and the Goff sisters ran the show.
Ivy Goff led the Panthers with 17 points, Bair added 10.
