Packer placed on administrative leave

December 22, 2010

BLACKFOOT – The Blackfoot School District School Board announced in a press release they have placed Coach Jonathan Packer on administrative leave from his coaching duties effective December 23, 2010 pending the investigation and review of the hazing incidents.
Blackfoot School Board released the following statement:
"Effective December 23, 2010, the Board has placed Coach Jonathan Packer on administrative leave from his coaching duties pending the investigation and review of the hazing incidents which allegedly occurred during certain athletic events under Coach Packer’s supervision. In so doing, the Board emphasizes that it has made no determination with respect to the merits or lack of merits of the hazing allegations nor with respect to the adequacy of supervision at the time these incidents occurred. The Board also wishes to make clear that it is aware of no evidence indicating that Coach Packer was aware of the hazing."
"This action is being taken out of an abundance of caution until a full, complete and thorough investigation of the matter can be made. The District will fully cooperate with the law enforcement authorities in this matter and will determine an appropriate course of action once the investigation and criminal proceedings have been concluded."

Really, so you've given up calling them sodomites and rapists with no apology at all? You sir/madam, invested yourself in an entirely unfounded, specific persecution. Disgusting implications fabricated by you alone. Why would you do such a thing? You owe an apology to the accused and their families, if you posses a modicum of decency.

Ok "truthsayer"...

I find it very interesting that you have chosen to call me out. With all the post on this subject, it's me that you want to answer? Ok, here you go- They are (by definition) sodomites. They took several different foreign objects and shoved them in the backsides of teamates while they were being held down. Since you seem to know so much why don't you tell me what thats called? Just to educate you a bit more, Rape is unwanted or forcable sexual assult on another person. Rape is not about the assult but about the power and domination. Again, by definiton what these boys did. I am not fabricating this as you hope for, unfortunatly this is public record and therefor a fact. I appriciate the fact that you want to defend these poor helpless little boys from the big bad world, but by doing what they have done they have opened another door to this world- one that doesn't have an "easy button". I am sorry if you are a family member of one of these boys, but carma can be a nasty thing. I do wish everyone the best that could possibly come out of this situation, whatever that may be. I just hope and pray that the victims stay strong and stick to their guns so this won't happen to anyone else by the hands of these boys.

OVERREACTION!!!!

It looks like we should be defending these boys from people like you...Really. Go ahead call them rapists or sodomists one more time if it makes u feel better, but obviously it doesn't change the facts!!!!!!!! I would like an "easy button" that shuts u up. oh wait the facts already did.

Wow KrisCHID... I didn't

Wow KrisCHID... I didn't realize your totaly stupidity until your last comment. You think this situation is actually ok because they dropped some charges? They are making a plea deal with the boys- that doesn't make them any less guilty of wrong doing, or can you not see that? It just shows that with enough pressure our county will always do the easy thing by taking the easy way out- period. The sad thing is had these been different circumstances or different kids, they would have been delt with harsher. Good thing they were good high school athletes because that seems to gets you out of just about anything in this town. So go relax in your lazy boy knowing that they got away with sexually assulting a teamate- you must be so proud!

Response to admisistrative leave

As usual we have a bunch of kneejerk responses from people who follow emotion rather than apply logic. First off, if the admistrative leave is applied that means that those who apply it did so with reason. I am sure that they would not do so unless something like a confession from Packer or some other facts, such as notifiction from the police warrented it. Second, if anyone knows or is in possion of facts indicitive of the case they would contact the proper authority rather that just spout off in the newspaper. Third, the newspaper only reports the news (after the fact or occurance) unless it is identified as opinion (oped column) or a record of facts (obituary), or some other reason for it to be in the newspaper (classifieds, comics, letters to the editor). The newspaper is not the courtroom where evidence is presented and accepted as fact towards conviction or acquital.
Finaly, comments on this issue is just that, comments. I as well as this medium look forward to the input of people who can put resonable comments together.
Example: I think that the hazing incendent that was reported is not accectable. Since the police are involved the substance of the actions must be excesive, beyond common "boys will be boys" stuff. I hope that the facts will be discovered and the appropriate action(s) will be administered. I have comfidence in all parties involved and support their investigative and administrative actions. Lets get this incident over and behind us.

what about...

Ok, so Packer was put on leave, but only from his coaching duties, not from teaching- how does that make any sense? Does anyone think that all of a sudden these 5 boys decided their senior year during basketball season would be a good time to start sexually abusing their teamates? Doesn't make sense to me! Maybe because it has been happening for several years from these boys. During every season, including football. So why isn't Buck on "administrative leave" also? Oh right, he has won 2 state championships in the last 4 years... that must exempt him from any wrong doing. Not to mention coach Marshall who was the acting AD at the time. Just goes to show that the power lies with football at this school- be a part of that program and you will be treated like a god!!

A player transfered away, of course the coach knew. Get a clue! This story has holes all through it. Time will only tell.

Leave it up to district 55 to make the young coach a scapegoat.

If you are going to use the first year head coach, Packer, accountable for just one of the incidents, then it's best that you put the rest of the coaching staff, district administration, and potential teachers on administrative leave also. This stuff went on way before Packer came. You are making the victims, victims again by doing this to them this season. There has been no evidence of this hazing (rape) going on this season. How deplorable for Scott Crane, to go after the "new guy," when this has been reportedly gone on for years. Investigate Scott Cranes ethics and you will see how this can happen in the district. Look into how he forced his way into the position of District Superintendent and you will see how stuff like this is all part of how he does business in that district.

I agree with bodiddly about making other administration staff responsible. Why is the new guy used to make an example? In March of last year when the 16 year old that committed suicide had problems with other students harassing him, Mr. Mackinely was informed of the situation and his response was "do not make waves in my school"....so my question is....just how often are people in authoritative positions aware of problems and turn the other cheek to avoid confrontation....maybe if they would step up and actually do their jobs, tragedies like the young man's suicide and accusations and possible perpetrations as we are hearing today may be avoided. I believe much of the responsibilities rest with the school administration and those in authority.

WHY?

Why is Coach Packer being made the sacrificial token in this? I do not believe for one minute that he knew about (and did nothing) the things these boys did! What about the coaches/teachers that really did know what was going on? Why haven't they been put on "administrative leave"?
Oh right, it's not football season so they are in the clear...way to go school board- another thing you all have messed up. Start holding the ones accountable that should be!!!

Of course he needs to be put on leave, the paper states it happened last year when he was the coach. His little brother was on the team, if any of this is true then he had to know about it. I for one don't believe it happened they way it has been reported, for one the foreign object was the persons underwear. So they got a wedgie, the coach probably thought all was well, just boys being boys. It can't be a one way street, if something happened the coach knew.

from what was reported, it

from what was reported, it was MUCH more than a wedgie. you don't believe an official police report? why would a victim make that up? they would have no reason to make that up. even if the coach's little brother knew about it, i doubt they would actually do it around him because he would obviously tell his brother if he knew how serious it was.
