Neil A. L. Sterr, 83

August 12, 2013

Neil A. L. Sterr, 83, passed away on Friday, Aug. 9, 2013, at his home in Pocatello due to complications associated with age.
Neil was born in Belén, New Mexico, on Aug. 1, 1930, the youngest son of Joseph and Gertrude Nelson Sterr.
He attended elementary school in Wheeler, Mont., and attended high school in American Falls where he graduated from American Falls High School in 1948.
At the age of 21 Neil was drafted into the US Army and served his country in Korea.
On May 23, 1953, he married the love of his life, Mary Alice Harman.  Just this summer, they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.  They lived the majority of their married life in Pocatello.
Neil worked at Skyline Volkswagen, Bucyrus-Erie and Petrolane Propane.  Neil took an early retirement to pursue his new hobby of prospecting for gold.  He and Mary spent one year in Alaska followed by four years in Oregon mining for gold.
Neil’s hobbies were fishing, hunting, fishing, mining, fishing, reading, fishing, camping and yes, fishing. He did things his way -- lived his life to the fullest every day -- with no regrets.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; his four children:  Mary Jo (Ric) Foster; Troy (LaNae) Sterr; Nancy (Gilbert) Salazar, and Tanya (Paul) England; 6 grandsons; and 9 great-grandchildren; his brother, Garland (Sherry) Sterr in Kent, Wash.; and his sister, Trudy McDonald in Boise along with many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his oldest brother, Christian Sterr; his oldest sister, Christle Swafford and his great-grandson, Jordan Foster.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 16, 2013, at the Cornelison Funeral Home, 431 North 15th Avenue in Pocatello.  There will be a viewing for family and friends on Thursday, the 15th from 6 – 8 p.m. and on Friday morning from 10 – 10:45 a.m.  Interment will be at the Riverside-Thomas Cemetery following the services.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Cornelison Funeral Home, 431 N. 15th Ave., Pocatello, 232-0542.
