Marathon officials recruiting volunteers
When the runners and walkers in the Tommy Vaughn’s Blackfoot Marathon and More are making their way from the respective start lines to the finish, volunteers from the community will work to ensure their safety and comfort.
Event Director Jon Lyksett emphasized that “traffic control, parking, participant check-in, water and nutrition distribution, and course setup and takedown are all accomplished by volunteer workers. This is great opportunity for families, church and school groups, service organizations, or groups of friends who can pitch in and help give the runners a great experience at the event.”
Some tasks will be done in the days before the run, with the greatest need being on race day, May 18. Individuals and groups can fill out a volunteer form at the event’s website, www.blackfootmarathon.com. You will be contacted by a coordinator to discuss assignments and scheduling.
Race organizers are also seeking sponsors for several elements of the event. Sponsorships are a great way to show support and to gain visibility for your business or group.
Lyksett said, “Without the generous assistance lent by our sponsors, the Marathon and More wouldn’t be the quality event that it’s become. Last year’s inaugural event showcased many businesses and groups as supporters, who helped defray expenses, which ultimately increased the amount of the contribution we were able to make to Community Dinner Table.”
With 20 water stations, start lines, various services, and support elements available, sponsors will be recognized at their element, in the Marathon Magazine, press releases, the event website, and in finish line and award ceremony announcements. Click the sponsorship forms are available at www.blackfootmarathon.com or by calling 785-8915.
