A pastor of the Lighthouse Assembly of God is gathering items to take Christmas to an orphanage in Mexico. David Trevizo and his wife, Sonia, have been heading the orphanage assistance every year since 1999, sometimes twice a year. Dirt roads littered with garbage and buildings engineered out of plywood, garage doors and scraps is home to the people of the orphanage. It is a home that is short of healthy meals, clean clothes and new toys, items that the Trevizos want desperately to give to the people of the shanty town.
"We are trying to raise enough money to buy a trailer So we can fill it and take it to Mexico," said David. The Trevizos plan on filling the trailer with items for the children and driving the 1,000 plus miles to Mexico.
On Nov. 24 a hot breakfast fundraiser will be held at the Lighthouse Assembly of God, 288 West Pacific St. in Blackfoot. A ticket can be purchased for $3 or a new child's gift can be used in exchange for breakfast. Breakfast will be served from 8:30 a.m. to noon. Donations of canned foods, baby wipes and diapers are also being accepted. Gifts should be for children from 1 month to 15 years of age. For questions or donations contact David Trevizo, 604-0761 or Sonia Trevizo (Spanish- speaking) 690-0864. The Trevizos are planning to leave Dec. 20.
