Madison runs past Blackfoot 63-36

December 11, 2013

Blackfoot’s Kaden Loveland drives through the Madison defense on his way to the basket during their game at Blackfoot High School Tuesday night.

BLACKFOOT — For a quarter the Blackfoot boys basketball team hung with 5A Madison, but things quickly fell apart in the remaining three quarters.
A 17-2 third quarter run by the Bobcats was the final nail in the Broncos coffin as Madison cruised to a 63-36 victory Tuesday night at Blackfoot High School.
"Usually my kids just play hard from start to finish, but not tonight," Blackfoot head coach Dan Hale said. "They were content to just concede the game and try and keep it under 30."
The Broncos trailed by four after one quarter, and while the game was close, the Broncos were being out rebounded and out hustled each and every time down the floor, something that Hale was extremely concerned with.
"It was a very rough night for us and it has been a rough week for us," Hale said. "We have not had the energy we needed in practice and the guys are not getting after each other and that is carrying over to the games."
Madison led by longtime coach Bill Hawkins used their size and speed to jump into the Blackfoot passing lanes leading to numerous fast break baskets.
The pesky Bobcats defense frustrated the Broncos all night long and seemed to take any flow out of the Blackfoot offense.
"We need to improve our effort," Hale said. "I told them after the game I never, ever I thought I would see them lay down like they did tonight, It was very disappointing."
Blackfoot trailed 30-17 at halftime, but when they came out for the third quarter Madison ran them up and down the floor.
The Bobcats Lyle Sutton scored eight straight points to start the quarter to build the Madison lead to 21.
Sutton finished with a game-high 17 points. Aaron Vail led Blackfoot with 10.
Blackfoot (1-2) plays at Snake River on Friday night.
