Long ball helps propel Lady Broncos to win over Idaho Falls

April 4, 2014

Blackfoot’s Cassandra Clarke, (#2), get mobbed by her teammates after she hit a solo home run in the second inning of the Broncos 10-2 win over Idaho Falls on Friday.

BLACKFOOT —
Coming into Friday’s game
with Idaho Falls, Blackfoot
senior Cassandra Clarke
had never hit a home run
in her softball career.
That changed with one
swing in the bottom of the
second inning.
Clarke crushed an 0-2
pitch over the left field
fence, one of two Broncos
home runs in the game as
Blackfoot downed Idaho
Falls 10-2 at Blackfoot
High School Friday afternoon.
After taking good swings
at the first two pitches in
her at-bat Clarke sat back
on the third pitch, which
just happened to be a
change up and crushed it
over the fence.
As she rounded first
base Clarke pumped her
fist in excitement.
Two innings later Sami
Macfee homered to kickoff
a four run fourth inning
as the Broncos blew the
game open.
In the circle Morningrose
Tobey was able to get out
of a first inning jam by
giving up just one run and
allowing two hits in her six
innings of work.
Hadlie Henderson
pitched herself into and
out of a bases loaded jam
in the seventh inning to
close out the game for
Blackfoot.
All but two Broncos
batters recorded at least
one hit and one RBI in
the game as the Broncos
offense had no problem
with Idaho Falls pitching.
Macfee and Clarke each
went 2-for-4 with a home
run and two RBI.
“The bottom of our
lineup came up big for
us again,” Blackfoot heaf
coach Matt Chavez said.
They have been big for
us all season so far and
today was just another
case of them coming
through in the clutch.

The Lady Broncos open
