December 20, 2012

Morning News-Lisa Lete Elizabeth Ramirez of Blackfoot, a medical assistant and single mother of five, was surprised at work Wednesday by Gordon Wankier of Blackfoot's Zions Bank branch, who presented her with a check for $5,000. Her name was drawn from over 200,000 entries for the winning money from an online banking promotion. Her co-workers say "it couldn't have happened to a better person.

Imagine, a few days before Christmas, you go to work like any other day, and your banker shows up at your office and surprises you with a $5,000 check. That's exactly what happened to Elizabeth Ramirez of Blackfoot at 10 a.m. Wednesday; it wasn't a joke and she wasn't dreaming.
Gordon Wankier, manager of Blackfoot's Zions Bank branch, said the promotion was to encourage bank customers to go 'paperless' by enrolling in eStatements and eNotices, the safe and secure alternative to traditional paper statements and notices. Clients opting out of paper statements and notices this fall received one entry for each account enrolled, up to five entries. Ramirez's name was drawn from more than 200,000 entries in Idaho and Utah.
Ramirez, who works as a medical assistant for Dr. Gerald Knouf in Pocatello, is a single mother of five and her co-workers say, "this money couldn't have gone to a better person."
An ecstatic Ramirez said she had forgotten that she had entered the contest, making the winnings even more of a surprise.
"I'm going to go buy lots of Christmas presents," she said as she grinned.
"There's not going to be any lumps of coal in her stocking this Christmas," Wankier joked.
Wankier said the bank does this type of a promotion about once a year.
