BLACKFOOT — Reaching your tenth birthday is a big deal. For two youngsters, one in Blackfoot and another in Firth, each will turn 10-years-old on the 10th day of the 10th month in the 10th year of the century.
Katie Steadman in Blackfoot and Jordan Scott in Basalt will each celebrate her/his first decade this Sunday, Oct. 10, 2010.
"Ten is my favorite number," said almost 10-year-old Katie Steadman.
For her birthday, Katie and her dad attended the opening night of the film, "Secretariat." on Friday. Katie is looking forward to the opening day of hunting season on Sunday. She is going out with her older sisters.
Katie is the middle sister in a family of five girls. Her favorite subject in school is reading. She likes to play basketball and ride horses in the mountains.
Katie said she figured out last March that on the 10th day of the 10th month in 2010 she would turn 10.
Jordan Scott in Firth said he was at school when he figured out he would turn 10 on 10-10-10 "about a month ago."
Jordan's granddad, Jay Waters, said Jordan was born at 10:54 p.m.
"All the 10's will come around again when I'm 110," Jordan said.
With all those 10's in his life, Jordan said his lucky number is eight.
Jordan's favorite subject in school is math. He plays football and soccer but his favorite sport is basketball. He also enjoys playing with his friends.
Jordan raises Keeshond puppies. There are eight puppies in the most recent litter; they will be ready to leave their mother in about four weeks, he said.
His grandfather said Jordan likes school; he doesn't give much trouble and minds—most of the time.
