Lady Panthers pull out 7-6 win over Lady Cardinals
RIVERSIDE — With the score tied 6-6 heading into the bottom half of the seventh inning the Snake River Lady Panthers got two very big swings. Alyssa Delaney started the inning with a drive to deep center field for a lead off triple. Moments later, Raegan Martin crushed a shot to centerfield and although it was caught, it was more than deep enough to drive in Delaney with the winning run as Snake River downed Soda Springs 7-6 in non-conference action.
"Alyssa pounded the ball and Raegan followed with a shot and if the wind wasn't blowing in both of those would have gone out because they were right at the fence," Snake River head coach Kay Martin said. "Give them credit. They battled and when we needed the runs they came through so I'm grateful for that."
Snake River trailed the pesky Lady Cardinal squad 3-1 entering the bottom of the fourth inning but the bats came alive as they plated 5 runs in the frame to take a 6-3 lead. The big blow of the inning was a 2RBI ground rule double by Kara Polatis.
"Wins are always nice and we had some good moments but we still didn't play as well as we are capable of," coach Martin said. "We stranded too many runners but we got twelve hits so that wasn't a bad ratio I guess."
Soda Springs were able to tie the game in the top of the sixth inning but Erica Ramirez slammed the door on any potential comeback win by shutting them down in the top of the seventh.
"When Erica keeps the ball down she does really well," coach Martin said. "She got a couple of balls up today and when she did, Soda did a good job of hitting it."
Snake River (1-2) are back in action today when they host South Fremont for a 4:30 contest.
