Lady Broncos sweep Lady Bobcats 5-3, 9-3.

Jessica Capson rips a double during game one of Blackfoots double header sweep of Madison on Wednesday.

BLACKFOOT — The Blackfoot softball squad took to the home field for the first time this season as they welcomed 5A Madison to town for a double dip on the diamond. By evenings end, the Lady Broncos remained unbeaten on the young season as they ran their record to 4-0 with a sweep of the Lady Bobcats 5-3 in game one and then 9-3 in the nightcap.

"I know what we can do and I know what we did today and we could have played better," Blackfoot head coach Matt Chavez said. "The pitching that we faced today was quite a bit slower than we faced against Snake River and it kind of threw these girls off like no other. We need to learn how to adjust and keep our weight back because everyone of them were out on their front foot and capping it."
Madison led 1-0 heading into the home half of the third inning when Blackfoot regained the lead for good, courtesy of a two run bomb off of the bat of Morningrose Tobey. Tobey extended that lead to 5-1 with a second home run in the home half of the fifth inning. That dinger came on the heels of a Jessica Capson dinger.
"Morningrose kept her weight back in that first game and picked up a couple of home runs that definitely helped us out in the first game," coach Chavez said.
The run support was more than enough for Capson who closed out the five hit effort for the win.
In game two, once again Madison drew first blood with a pair of runs in the top of the first as Arnold hit a two run homer. Blackfoot answered with a run in the home half of the first and regained the lead for good with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third inning.
Blackfoot put the game out of reach in the bottom of the sixth inning when Capson laced a bases clearing double much to the delight of the Blackfoot faithful.
"The girls started adjusting to the speed and in the last inning of the second game we started stringing some hits together and then Jess [Capson] came through with a big double to clear the bases," coach Chavez said.
Tobey was the lucky recipient of the run support in the second game as she also improved to 2-0 in the pitchers circle for the Lady Broncos.
"I told the team that they needed to look at both of our pitchers and thank them because they did a fantastic job," coach Chavez said. "They pitched their hearts out and they both helped each other out. Morningrose helped Jess out when Jess was pitching and Jess helped Morningrose out when she was pitching."
Blackfoot (4-0) will be off for the weekend, returning to the home diamond next Tuesday when they will host 5A Skyline for a double header beginning at 4 p.m.
"I have to say thank you to some dads," coach Chavez said. "Several dads were out here working on the fields until nine o'clock last night trying to get the field ready to play and without them, we wouldn't have gotten the games in today. I have great parents and I'm thankful for them."
