BLACKFOOT — For Blackfoot senior Cassandra Clarke finding the back of a soccer net is not something that is very difficult.
But Thursday afternoon against Bonneville, finding the back of the net proved to be a tough task.
Clarke's first three shots on goal were stopped by the Bonneville goalie, but in the 35th minute Clarke finally found the back of the net scoring the final Blackfoot goal as the Lady Broncos walked way with a 3-1 victory.
"I was curious how the girls were going to come out and play in this cold weather because the only cold weather they have played in wash Wednesday at practice," Blackfoot head coach Alisha Yeates said. "Playing in conditions like we had today is tough and it was good to see the girls be able to deal with that and play well."
In fact the Lady Broncos played very well during the opening 40 minutes as the team controlled possession and sent a handful of shots towards the Bonneville net.
It took less than a minute for the Blackfoot pressure to crack the Bees defense as Angela Garza stole a ball and sent a shot off the hands of the Bonneville goalie, what appeared to a redirected shot trickled into the back of the net for the opening goal.
It took almost half an hour but Garza got the Broncos second goal of the game we she sent a shot from the top of the 18-yard box and into the net.
In between Garza's two goals the Broncos missed out on two really good scoring chances.
Maria Labra's header off a corner kick just went over the crossbar in the 9th minute. Not to be outdone Mattie Chavez had a wide open net in front of her in the 28th minute, but her turnaround shot did not move with the speed she had hoped on the wet grass and the Bonneville keeper was able to dive and stop the shot.
The Bees got on the scoreboard late in the half when Keanna Vanderstoop found herself all alone in front of the goalie, Vanderstoop sent a shot high and off the fingers of Blackfoot goalie Madison Leslie. As Leslie went to wrap the ball up it rolled of her fingers and into the back of the net.
Blackfoot went into halftime up 3-1.
The second half was played in the middle of the field.
Bonneville tried to come out of the break and put pressure on Blackfoot with hopes of forcing a mistake that would lead to an easy goal. While Blackfoot looked tentative and played to not make a mistake.
Both teams got of some good scoring chances, but neither could find the back of the net.
"I don't know what happened in the second half," Yeates said. "We just looked out of it a bit and did not play like we had earlier in the game. The first half was great, we were aggressive and got off some good shots. We need to continue that going forward."
The victory moves the Lady Broncos District 5/6 record to 3-0.
