John Michael Reading, 62, of Blackfoot, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012 at his home.
\He was born April 20, 1950 in Chadron, Neb., to John William and Betty Jean Feldhousen Reading.Â John was raised and attended school in Chadron. Â Â Â Â Â Â
On July 7, 1973 he married Kay Marie Larsen in Rexburg.Â After their marriage they lived in Nebraska for two years, then moved to Pocatello for a year and a half.Â They moved to Blackfoot in 1977.Â Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple on March 17, 1979.Â
John was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in the branch presidency of the Young Single Adult Branch, as Elders Quorum president, High Priest group leader, high counselor in the stake, and ward mission leader.
He worked at Basic American Foods for over 30 years and had previously worked at Bucyrus-Erie in Pocatello.
John enjoyed backpacking, photography, gardening, fishing, and hunting.Â He was a member of Cedar Hills Gun Club.Â He liked watching sports especially when Nebraska was playing football.
His children and grandchildren were the joy of his life.Â John loved his family, most importantly his wife.Â He was happiest camping, traveling, and enjoying the outdoors with his family.Â Floating the Buffalo River always put a smile on his face.Â John, husband, father, grandpa, son, brother, friend, will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his wife, Kay; children: Jeff (Michelle) Reading of Clinton, Utah; Jason (Desiree) Reading of Jerome; Clint (Jill) Reading of Cheyenne, Wyo.; Kimberly Reading of Jackson, Wyo.; Kristy (Matthew) Rust of Pocatello; his mother, Betty Jean Reading of Chadron, Neb.; brother, Steve (Arlene) Reading of Atlanta, Ga.; sister, Joanne Schulte of Rogers, Minn. and 10 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, John William Reading.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday, Dec.10, 2012 at the Blackfoot 3rd Ward chapel with Bishop Richard Fowers conducting.Â
The family will meet with friends and relatives from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, Dec.9, 2012 at Hawker Funeral Home and again for one hour prior to service at the church.Â Interment will be in the Darby Cemetery in Driggs.
