John Lyle Smith, 93, passed away Tuesday, June 25, 2013 at his home in Moreland, Idaho.
John was born April 4, 1920 in Smithfield, Utah, to Thomas and Cora Myrtle Tall Smith.Â He was raised in the Moody, Idaho area and attended school in Sugar Salem School District, graduating in 1938.
On April 8, 1942 he married Jean Tucker in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple.Â She preceded him in death on September 30, 2010.
John was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served in a Bishopric and various other callings.
John farmed in the Moody area and 2 summers in Roseworth, Idaho.Â In 1957 he bought farm ground west of Moreland and moved his family there.Â In 1974 they moved into Moreland where he owned and operated a trucking business andÂ grain elevators.
He enjoyed reading, traveling and sports, both participating and watching his family.
John is survived by his children: John Lee Smith of Moreland, Grant T. Smith of Onalaska, Wisconsin, Janice (Sam) Christiansen of St. Anthony, Cora Jean (Dennis) Taylor of Moreland, Mary Ann Smith of Groveland, Beth Smith of Moreland, Susan (John) Williams of Orland, California and Teresa Smith of Twin Falls, Idaho; 20 grandchildren and 47 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean; parents, three sisters, Mabel Valentine, Elva Jensen and Karma Belnap; a daughter-in-law, Julia Smith, four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 29, 2013 at the Moreland 4th Ward LDS Chapel, 740 W. 175 N.Â The family will meet with friends and relatives from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, June 28, 2013 at the Hawker Funeral Home, 132 S. Shilling Ave., Blackfoot and again for one hour prior to services at the church.Â Interment will be in the Teton-Newdale Cemetery in Teton, Idaho.
