Jerry Bruce Goodwin, 76, of Blackfoot, passed away at his home on Friday, Nov. 12, 2010, from a lingering illness.
Jerry was born Oct. 6, 1934, in Thomas, the oldest son of Chester Lamar and Vanona Wright Goodwin. He graduated from Blackfoot High School in 1952 where he was active in baseball and boxing. He married Connie Martin on Nov. 26, 1958, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Together they raised five daughters and one son.
Jerry was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served in various callings including bishopâ€™s counselor, member of the stake high council, and stake athletic director.
Jerry was an avid bowler, and for the last 20 years he owned and operated Starlite Lanes. He truly enjoyed associating with everyone who came in to bowl. Prior to his owning the bowling alley, Jerry worked as a sheet metal fabricator and welder.
Jerry loved the outdoors, and you could often find him fishing the local streams and lakes with his son, brothers, and friends. He also enjoyed hunting big game and game birds. One of the highlights of his life was playing for and later managing the Blackfoot Spuds fast pitch softball team where he made many life-long friends.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Connie; his daughters, Michelle (Steve) Morris of Eagle; Chemene (Stewart) Petersen, of Cokeville, Wyo.; Tifani (Jared) Wattenbarger of Idaho Falls, Anncheri (Denton) Roberts of Meridian; Nichole (Brian) Belnap of Idaho Falls; his son, Troy (Gina), of Blackfoot; 24 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers; Sheridan (Jackie) of Blackfoot, Lynn (Harriett) of Quilcene, Wash., and Steve (Virginia) of Thomas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Chet and Vanona Goodwin; a son-in-law, Shan Clement; and his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Dale and Eilene Martin.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2010 at 11a.m. at the Blackfoot Fourth Ward building. 520 N. Shilling. A viewing will be held Tuesday, Nov. 16, from 7-9 p.m. at the Hawker Funeral Home, 132 S. Shilling Ave., and again from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to services at the church. Interment will follow at the Riverside-Thomas Cemetery.
