James 'Jim' Maurice Guymon, 66
James “Jim” Guymon, a 66-year-old Blackfoot resident, died at his home , Sunday, May 26, 2013 following his second battle with lung cancer.
He was born March 11, 1947 in Pocatello, the son of James Maurice Guymon and Rhoda Jones Guymon.
He attended school in Pocatello and graduated from Pocatello High school . He joined the US Navy and served during the Vietnam War. He was always proud of his service time and was very patriotic.
Upon leaving the service, he married Peggy Byrd. They had one child, Alysha Lynn. Jim and Peggy were later divorced.
He then met Ellen Merrell Williams and they were married Sept. 26, 1982 in Blackfoot. Jim became Dad to Ellen’s three children, Stacey, Loyd and Cindy.
Jim was a member of the American Legion, Legion Riders Motorcycle Club and Bingham County Mounted Posse. He was also a member of Alcohol Anonymous with over 40 years of sobriety and helped many others with their addiction.
He was a job coach and care provider at Dawn Enterprises and worked as a technician at State Hospital South. He tried his own horseshoeing business and was a great farrier, but it took him a lot of time.
He loved his horses and enjoyed riding with family and friends. He especially enjoyed riding in the spring and fall cattle roundups. After buying his motorcycle, it became his favorite pastime besides sparring with his wife, Ellen. He could be seen riding everywhere in town, with a big smile on his face. Always ready to give a hug and words of encouragement, his wisdom and love was known to many.
He is survived by his wife, Ellen of Blackfoot; children, Alysha (Steve) McDonald of Kentucky; Stacey (Doug) Staples, Loyd (Susan) Williams and Cindy Norris, all of Blackfoot; brother, Robert Guymon of Pocatello; sister, Suzanne (Ernie) Emrick of Pocatello; eight grandchildren and 21 great- grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews that he loved. He was also called Grandpa by many.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one niece.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 1, 2013 at the American Legion Hall with Cody Vezina conducting.
The family will meet with friends on Friday from 7-9 p.m. at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 S. Shilling Ave., Blackfoot.
Interment will be in the Grove City Cemetery with military honors by the American Legion Stewart Hoover Post #23 and a luncheon following at the American Legion Hall.
