BLACKFOOT — An Eastern Division Championship was on the line Saturday afternoon as the 5-1 and top seeded Bingham United Silverbacks welcomed the Portneuf Honeybadgers to town. The visiting Honeybadgers proved to be a very strong team indeed as they avenged an earlier season loss to the Silverbacks by shocking Bingham United on their home field by the final tally of 20-10.
"We had a highly successful season. Last year we were 0-6 and to come out this year and finish 5-2 is a huge success," Bingham United head coach Ryan Woodland said. "The boys are disappointed that we didn't get the win today but that's the way that life goes. Portneuf just came out and wanted it a little bit more than we did today. These guys did good though. They played their hearts out it just wasn't clicking today."

Bingham United opened the game as the aggressors as they took the opening drive down the field and down to the tri-line. The Honeybadger defense stiffened however and for nearly five minutes, they held the Silverbacks from scoring.
"I think that mentally that affected us," coach Woodland said. "We came out so strong to start the game and we felt that we were right there and that it was going to go our way and then when it didn't, I don't know if psychologically it held them back or what. We had a good start but we just couldn't get the momentum and we didn't play our game today."
The Honeybadgers eventually gained possession of the ball and after advancing the ball down the field, they got on the board first with a kick through the uprights from about 25-yards out for the 3-0 lead.
That lead grew to 10-0 before the end of the first half and as the skies darkened and the rain began to fall, the game headed into the second half. Once again the Honeybadger defense turned away a prime scoring opportunity for the Silverbacks and moments later, they snuck the ball through the Silverbacks defense from about 10 yards out for a 15-0 lead.
Bingham United responded with a nice drive of their own, maneuvering the ball down the field, eventually getting on the score board as Terence Pocatilli bulled his way across the line for the Silverbacks first score. Julio Tafoya converted the kick and the score was now 15-7 Honeybadgers.
The comeback was thwarted with another Portneuf score for the 20-7 lead and just before the end of the game Alberto Tafoya made an impressive kick from 30 yards out for the 20-10 final.
