July 10, 2014

Morning News-Lisa Lete Last year's "Idaho Hometown Hero Medal" recipient artist, volunteer and Latino advocate Jose Quezada of Aberdeen stands with Pocatello's Dr. Fahim Rahim at Tuesday's kick-off of this year's campaign themed: "Who's Your Hero." Quezada showed two of his Aztec Army "Elite Warrior" paintings - "Eagle Knight," which he has given to Dr. [Fahim] Rahim and "Tiger Knight" which will be auctioned off to raise money for Idaho's Hometown Hero Medal organization.

POCATELLO—Who's Your Hero? Idaho's Hometown Hero committee members are ready to hear from you as they prepare for this year's Hometown Hero Medal award ceremony on Sept. 6 at the Stephens Performing Arts Center in Pocatello.
Idaho's Hometown Hero founders (brothers) Dr. Fahim Rahim and Dr. Naeem Rahim, city officials and committee members, gathered in Pocatello on Tuesday to launch this year's event. Artist, volunteer and advocate for the Latino community, Jose Quezada of Aberdeen, who received a Hometown Hero Medal last year came as a special guest for the kick-off.
The Rahim brothers started the organization in 2011 under the umbrella of their nonprofit organization JRM Foundation for Humanity.
Fahim told the crowd that they want to recognize those community heros throughout the state "who don't seek the spotlight," but who embody a "strong spirit of philanthropy and show a commitment to creating better communities throughout the state of Idaho."
Past medalists have included CEO's, athletes, soldiers, historians, teachers and "in memoriam" honorees.
This year, in particular, the committee is hoping to attract more youth to get involved in the campaign by starting a "youth ambassador program."
"We'd love to have some youth nominees. Please feel free to nominate some young people who are doing great things in our Idaho communities," Fahim stated.
"This is truly an award that celebrates the people of Idaho from all backgrounds."
To nominate an Idaho Hometown Hero, go to www.idahohometownhero.org/nominate and fill out the nomination form. Entries will be evaluated by the committee upon receipt. The 2014 medal recipients will be announced on Aug. 15.
