Hazel Hale Jensen, 90
Hazel Jensen, 90, of Blackfoot passed away Friday, Nov. 19, 2010 at the home of her daughter, Tami Van Orden, surrounded by her family.
Hazel was born July 2, 1920, to Horace Leslie Hale and Agnes Pearl Pope in St. Anthony, Fremont, Idaho. She attended school in Cascade, Mont., graduating from Cascade High School on May 27, 1938. She continued her education at The California College of Mortuary Science, graduating on June 24, 1943. Hazel then worked at the Croxford Mortuary in Great Falls, Mont.
On Aug. 3, 1946, Hazel married Walter Helmuth Harrie in Great Falls, Mont. After only seven short years of marriage, Walter passed away. Hazel married Darwin â€śBudâ€ťWood Jensen on March 30, 1953.
Bud was serving in the Air Force and they traveled the world together. They lived in many places, including Washington D.C.; Japan; Philippines; Germany; Florida and Montana. When Bud retired they moved to Blackfoot in 1963. Hazel worked at the Snake River Junior High School as the secretary, retiring after 24 years.
Hazel was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She held many leadership positions in all organizations. She was able to serve two missions, one in St. George, Utah, and the other at the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, Utah.
In her free time, Hazel enjoyed working on her own family history. Her family was her life; she never missed a football game that her grandsons played in. She enjoyed playing the violin and cello and played in the Pocatello Civic Symphony. She had a great love of music.
Hazel is survived by her children, Toni (Roger) McBride of Twin Falls, Tami (Gary) Van Orden of Blackfoot; Kathy (Jim) Hansen of Logan, Utah; and Danny (Kathleen) Jensen of Boise; sister, Elva Earl of Ogden, Utah; 26 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Hazel was preceded in death by her husbands, Walter and Bud; her parents; sisters; Virginia Pearl Anderson, Martha Alverna Anderson and Iva Eveline Stowers; brothers, Marion Woodrow Hale and Ivan â€śWâ€ť Hale; and two great-grandchildren, Alex Cree Hill am and Hannah Kay Bates.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2010, at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 South Shilling Avenue in Blackfoot. The family will meet with friends and relatives for one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Interment will follow at the Riverside-Thomas Cemetery.
