Firth downs South Fremont in battle of Cougars

September 21, 2013

FIRTH — Coltyr Brewington had a great night on Friday. First he was named Firth's Homecoming King and then he led his Cougars to a 39-20 rout of South Fremont.

Brewington paced the defense as he had three sacks in the first quarter.
The Cougars started with Dalton Cate's 59 yard touchdown run on the first play of the game. This was the preview for the rest of the game as a staunch defense and an explosive offense helped the Cougars gain a 21-0 edge at the end of the first. Nick Anderson later left his mark as he tallied two touchdowns to go with Cates' score.
The second quarter was much of the same as the Cougars controlled both sides of the ball by shutting down the shifty quarterback from South Fremont.
“I think we hit him good the first quarter and we kind of confused him,” said Firth coach Keith Drake.
Not to be outdone on homecoming by his fellow seniors, running back Connor Montgomery broke out for 2 touchdowns in the second quarter including a 42 yard scamper to put the Cougars up 33-0.
South Fremont managed to put a drive together to make it 33-7. Lucas Orme answered with a 46-yard dash to end the half.
Firth didn't score again but its defense continued to control the game and the offense ran the clock down. At the start of the fourth quarter the starters came out and the JV came in. South Fremont promptly scored two touchdowns.
