Elaine Horrocks Goodwin, 88, of Blackfoot passed away Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2010 at the Gables in Blackfoot.
Elaine was born Dec. 2, 1921, in Blackfoot to Brigham and Victoria Giles Horrocks. She attended schools in Blackfoot, graduating from Blackfoot High School in 1939.
On Jan. 9, 1940, Elaine married Blueland R â€śBarneyâ€ť Goodwin in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Together they had six children, Evan, Raymon, Russell, Carole, Nancy and Suzette.
Elaine was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served diligently in her church callings, helping others and taking countless meals to those in need. She has been a stake and ward Relief Society president and Primary and Mutual leader. She served as the ward organist for 25 years and played for numerous funerals and weddings. Elaine and Barney served two French-speaking missions in Canada and France.
Elaine was a loving wife and mother and helped her husband with the family construction business. They spent their lives supporting their children and grandchildren in sports, recitals, plays and pageants. They loved spending family time together at the cabin in Island Park and gathered in their home for birthdays, reunions and holidays. Elaine served her community by being an active member in the Soroptimist Club, being a Blackfoot charter member, the DUP, the Republican Ladies and the Associate General Contractors Womenâ€™s Organization and Study Club.
Elaine was a loving person and was highly respected and loved in the community.
Elaine is survived by her children, Evan H. (Susan) Goodwin of Idaho Falls; Raymon B. (Janet) Goodwin of Riverside; Russell L. (Sandy) Goodwin of Blackfoot; Carole (Chris) Balling of Pocatello; Nancy (Kent) Harris of Lizella, Ga.; and Suzette (Wes) Beck of Blackfoot; brother, Charles (Dallas) Horrocks of Blackfoot; 35 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild.
Elaine was preceded in death by her husband, Barney; her parents; three grandchildren and two brothers, Dean and Verl.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 20, 2010, at the Blackfoot 6th Ward LDS Chapel, 660 Teton Drive in Blackfoot.
Family will meet with friends and relatives from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 19, 2010, at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 South Shilling Avenue in Blackfoot and for one hour prior to services at the church.
Interment will follow at the Grove City Cemetery.
