Danielle Hughes Watzke, 27, completed a short but amazing life Sunday, July 28, 2013 at the Portneuf Regional Medical Center after a motorcycle accident that occurred July 24, 2013 east of Carey. Danielle was born Sept. 10, 1985, in Pocatello, the daughter of Pat and Susan Hughes.
From the very beginning Danielle was determined to keep up or out-do her brothers, Brandon and Dustin, and live life to the fullest. Two years following her birth in Pocatello the family moved to Everett, Wash. and back to Blackfoot in 1995 to be near family.
Soon after her move back to Blackfoot, she was making friends with the Atwoods and was united with her cousin Chani. From which endless shenanigans ensued.
Danielle attended Blackfoot High School where she found an interest in and then excelled at both music (saxaphone and bassoon) and debate. She was then blessed with the birth of her son Mitchell in 2004, the love of her life.
Mitchell transformed her life as the role of Mother quickly took over her heart. They shared many of the same interests, and together life was an adventure. On July 25, 2009, Danielle married Peter Watzke of Firth.
As an adult she learned massage therapy and applied her skills to relieve tension in others. Danielle later found that her social traits would lead to her success as an optician.
Beyond work, Danielle loved to cook, camp, ski and be around others, especially in the outdoors. Danielle was extremely close and strengthened by the grandmothers in her life — Barbara Hughes, and her dear friend Marlene Reid. She was loved dearly by her family and many friends, of which she will be missed greatly.
Special thanks to Anthony Ponton, Michele Shive, and Carol Van Nievwenvizen, an important part of her family following her and Mitchell’s move to Boise in August 2012.
She is survived by husband, Peter Watzke of Firth; son, Mitchell of Basalt; father, Patrick Hughes of Elko, Nev.; mother, Susan Hughes of Basalt; brothers, Brandon (Erica) Hughes of Hailey, Dustin Hughes of Boise; grandfather, Ronald Hughes of Firth and a niece, Montana, of Hailey.
The family will meet with friends on Tuesday, July 30, 2013 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Hawker Funeral Home, 132 S. Shilling Ave. Blackfoot.
