City to operate driving range
Mother Nature offered mild springlike temperatures for the opening day of the Blackfoot Golf Course and driving range Thursday. This year, for the first time, the City of Blackfoot will manage the "Smooth Swing Driving Range," privately owned by Bill and Rita Pope of Blackfoot.
Blackfoot Golf Pro Mike Dayley said this is a good move for the city and golfers.
"The city is leasing the driving range from the Popes'," Dayley said. "This is something the city has been working on for awhile and the timing was right for the Popes."
Dayley said the driving range will operate from a token-run ball machine (a brand new ball dispenser with 6,000 golf balls). The tokens can be purchased at the clubhouse.
"We'll be able to offer longer hours for golfers to warm up and practice," Dayley noted. "The high school kids can use the range...we'll be able to develop a lot more golfers."
Dayley encourages golfers to set tee times and keep updated on the golf course and driving range by going to the website at www.blackfootgc.com.
