BLACKFOOT- In the bottom of the fourth inning of game one with the Twin Falls Cowboys, the bases were loaded and Blackfoot’s Cole Mansanerez stepped up to the plate and hit a towering grand slam over the left field fence to pull the Broncos to within 8-7.
“I was practicing in the cage before the game and it felt good so I knew that today was going to be a good day,” Mansanarez said.
Although a great fourth inning for the Broncos, where they scored seven runs catching them up to the Twin Falls Cowboys, it wasn’t enough to gain the win as Twin Falls pulled away for the 12-8 win in the first game however.
“We didn’t play very good defense in the first game. Some of the kids really gave us a chance but there was to many errors. We did have some good pitching though,” Coach Jeff Katseanes said.
In the second game the Broncos rebounded for a nice 13-11 victory, earning the split of the afternoon's double-dip.
The game started out with one run in the bottom of the first inning and a 1-0 Bronco lead.
After Twin Falls took a 4-1 lead, Blackfoot got their bats going in the bottom of the third inning gaining five runs for a 6-4 lead. The Broncos kept going, gaining two more runs in the fourth and three in the fifth innings as the two teams slugged it out.
The team along with Cody Evans, Mansanarez, and Russell Osborn, helped to slow down the cowboys stopping them with 11 runs in the top of the sixth inning.
Along with his home run, Mansanarez had a great game with three RBI’s in the first game and eight RBI’s in the second. Mansanarez also hit a triple.
“We hit the ball well this game. Cody Evans pitched a great game and Cole Mansanarez closed the game. This game we came back and played Bronco Baseball,” Katseanes said.
“I think that we came together as a group and we are all friends. We hit the balls well but we need better defense to help our pitcher,” first baseman Colton Fairchild said.
The Broncos will play again Friday at home in a double header against Burley at 4 & 6 P.M.
