BLACKFOOT — All season long the buzz up and down the Snake River plain has been about how good the Rigby High School softball team has been.
The Trojans have been hitting the ball well and hitting it with power keeping them in close games and even beating some of East Idaho's top teams.
Rigby visited Blackfoot on Thursday for a 4A District 5/6 doubleheader with the Broncos.
And while the Trojans did hit the ball during the afternoon, it was one bad inning in game one that cost the Broncos the chance of a doubleheader sweep.
A seven run second inning for Rigby in game one that was aided by four Blackfoot errors earned Rigby a 10-3 game one win, Blackfoot bounced back and took game two 11-5 at Blackfoot High School.
The Trojans did hit the ball in the first games lone big inning racking up five hits, but what did in the Broncos was plethora of Blackfoot errors that had Broncos head coach Matt Chavez scratching his head.
Four of the seven runs came on RBI hits with Monica Parkes two-RBI single being the innings big blow.
And while the hits were upsetting to the Bronco faithful, it was the the avoidable throwing errors that gave the Trojans extra runs.
Take away those mistakes and the Broncos could have won the game easily. Instead they struggled getting hits off of Rigby starter Audrey Hegi.
Blackfoot's offense came in the bottom of the fifth when Matti Chavez had a two-RBI single and then came around to score on a Morningrose Tobey RBI single.
The Broncos had the bases loaded with two outs in the seventh, but were unable to get any runs across.
Between games Chavez told his team to be aggressive at the plate, a point he has been emphasizing over the last few weeks.
after struggling hitting the ball in game one, the Broncos came out swinging in game two.
Tobey had an RBI double and Taylor Beers ripped a two-RBI double to give the Broncos a 3-0 lead.
The lead was short lived as Rigby scored four runs in the top of the second inning getting RBI singles from Hegi and Randi Anderson. The big blow was a bases loaded walk that give the Trojans some momentum.
Blackfoot tied the game in the bottom half of the inning on an RBI infield hit from Anicia Luna, but the offense for Blackfoot was far from done.
The Broncos scored four runs in the fourth inning with a two-RBI single by Chavez the innings big hit. Hadlie Henderson and Taylor Beers each added RBI hits.
Henderson and Tobey each had RBI hits in the bottom of the sixth, with Tobey's triple being the innings big hit.
