The Blackfoot Public Library will be closed Aug. 31-Sept. 7 for the installation of a new circulation program and training on its use. Patrons are invited to come to the library through this week to stock up on what they need with no circulation limits.
"We are doing our best to still accommodate the patrons while we are closed; so there will be no circulation limit prior to the closing so that everyone can get what they need to tide them over, while we are closed, " said librarian Brenda Wilcox. No fines will be assessed during the time that the library is closed.
Wilcox said that the new circulation system will be a "very positive thing" for the library and that the "patrons will realize the benefits."
"This new system will put us into the 21st century," she said. "We'll have offsite capabilities to issue library cards and we'll have wireless handheld devices to do inventory in a faster, more efficient manner."
Wilcox said that it is a rare event for the library to be closed for such a long period of time and that the City of Blackfoot will use the time to repave the library parking lot.
Any patrons who still have an urgent need to contact the library staff during the closure can go to blackfootlibrary.org, click on "Contact Us" fill in the requested information and pose their needs. No phone calls will be accepted during the closure.
"Let us know what you can't do without and someone from the library will contact you," Wilcox said. "It is always our goal to give our patrons the very best service that we can."
The library will reopen with regular hours on Sept. 9.
