Bees sting Broncos

BLACKFOOT — The top ranked and undefeated Bonneville Bees came to Blackfoot on Friday night in a conference tilt at Chris Gardner Gymnasium and when the game was over, the Bees remained undefeated as they turned in a hot night on the offensive end in an 87-63 victory over the Broncos.

"Our scouting report was to stop dribble drive penetration and I thought for the most part we did a pretty good job of that," Blackfoot head coach Dan Hale said. "We didn't expect them to shoot the three as well as they did though but Bonneville are a good ball team."
Indeed the three point shot did play a roll in the contest, especially in the second quarter where the Bee's knocked down six three point baskets in a 30-11 quarter that took the home court energy right out of the gym.
Blackfoot led entering the quarter in large part to a seven point series of plays late in the first quarter. Alonzo Ramos keyed the run with a steal and a lay up which was followed by a technical foul on Bonneville. Tyler Cannon connected on both free throws and when Blackfoot inbounded the ball, Aaron Vail was fouled on a shot on the low blocks where he converted the hoop and the harm for a six point Blackfoot lead at 14-8.
"I thought that we showed a lot of character and a lot of toughness tonight," Coach Hale said. "Our inside people, Aaron [Vail] and Austin [Campbell] both worked really hard and got exactly the kinds of shots that we want to get down low. We just didn't convert on as many of them as we should have."
Campbell and Vail combined for 21 points inside for the Broncos while Colby Pearson and tallied 13 in the losing effort.
Blackfoot (2-4, 0-1) will look to get back on the winning track when they hit the road next Wednesday as they travel south to take on the Pocatello Indians at 7:30 p.m.
